About the College of Arts & Science

The College of Arts & Science (CAS) is the founding school of New York University, and one of the three pillar institutions of NYU Arts & Science (with Liberal Studies and the Graduate School of Arts & Science).

CAS offers a liberal arts education for the 21st century: dynamic, practical, and purposeful. Over 60 majors and 60 minors are centered by an innovative and rigorous core curriculum of critical engagement with ideas and the arts; writing and language; scientific inquiry; and data and discovery. Talented and inquisitive students from widely divergent backgrounds and perspectives are challenged, inspired, and mentored in intellectual community with the renowned NYU Arts & Science faculty, and supported by dedicated administrators.

CAS and its students draw from—and add to—the energy and excitement of Greenwich Village. Home to generation-defining intellectual and social movements and located in the heart of New York City, the neighborhood teems with culture, industry, and an expansive global outlook.

Students pursue a vast array of academic, social, service and leadership opportunities within CAS, across the University, in New York City, and internationally at NYU’s global campuses and study away sites. Challenging themselves and each other, our students find connection, develop their interests, and hone the skills that make CAS alumni lifelong learners, leaders, and changemakers across medicine, business, law, education, media, engineering, and the arts.

Since 2022, Wendy Suzuki has led CAS as Seryl Kushner Dean for the College of Arts & Science. A professor of neuroscience and psychology whose research, writing, and speaking explore the brain’s response to external stimuli, Dean Suzuki has made holistic student success and community connection central tenets of her deanship.
