Graduation
Graduation
The University confers degrees in January, May, July, and September. The University Commencement ceremony is held in May. Schools of NYU may also celebrate graduation and/or convocation with ceremonies at other times of the year.
Students must apply for graduation via Albert SIS (NYU’s student information system) before the application deadline published on the Office of the University Registrar's website. When a student applies for graduation they are stating their intent for their primary degree program (major) to be reviewed. Any non-required major(s) and/or minor(s) are not required and may be removed from the student’s record, if requirements are not fulfilled, in order to confer the primary degree. Students who do not successfully complete all academic requirements by the end of the graduation semester/term must reapply for graduation for the following semester/term.
Diplomas
The diploma is a ceremonial document that commemorates the completion of a degree program. NYU issues paper and electronic diplomas approximately 8-12 weeks after degree conferral. Diplomas may be withheld if a student has any overdue financial obligations to NYU.
To ensure the integrity of the document, diplomas are issued only once, and NYU will not issue a duplicate of an original. If an original diploma is lost or damaged, NYU will issue a replacement diploma upon request from the student and receipt of payment of a fee. Replacement diplomas reflect the original degree conferral date, the current formatting, and current signatories (e.g., NYU President, Provost, and School Dean).
Additional information about diplomas can be found on the Office of the University Registrar’s website.
