FMMED-ML 1029 Introduction to Sports Medicine for Primary Care (1 Credit)

This is a one week introduction to commonly seen orthopedic conditions seen in the primary care setting. Students will have hands on review of the musculoskeletal exam and will feel proficient in preforming an exam by the end of the week. There will be review of commonly seen injuries through formal presentations as well as through review of clinical cases. The student will be expected to present a case at the end of the week which will make up part of their overall grade.

FMMED-ML 1033 Introduction to Family Medicine (1 Credit)

To introduce students to the field of Family Medicine. Students will become introduced to family medicine in different clinic settings. Students will observe the breadth of Family Medicine by navigating between pediatric, adolescent and adult patients. Students will recognize the psychosocial determinants of health and its impact on individual patients.

FMMED-ML 4057 Family Medicine (2 Credits)

Medical students will participate in the full breadth and scope of family medicine in various clinical settings; they will navigate between pediatric, gynecological, and adult patients. A particular focus will be on the biopsychosocial determinants of health and the impact on patient health outcomes.
Students will rotate in the outpatient Family Medicine offices on our campus; there is an option for an inpatient week. Students will interview and examine patients, present their findings to teaching attendings. Clinical encounters vary, including but not limited to gynecological care, school physical exams, sports medicine visits, chronic disease care, and urgent care visits. There may be opportunities for home care visits, depending on provider schedule and availability.
